Shepherd's huts in Cornwall
Where to find a hut, which part of Cornwall suits your trip, and the local rules worth knowing before you go.
The short answer: Cornwall has plenty of huts to choose from. Pitchup lists 20 sites with huts there, from £80 a night,1 and Glampingstays lists 22 huts.2 They gather on the north coast around Bude, around Bodmin Moor, in mid Cornwall near Truro, St Austell and Newquay, around Helston and the Lizard, and in the far west. Book a hot tub early: only 5 of Pitchup's 20 hut sites have one.1 If you're bringing a dog, check the summer beach bans.
Where to book
No single site lists every hut in Cornwall, so compare two or three. This is what the main ones showed:
| Booking site | What it showed |
|---|---|
| Pitchup | 20 sites with huts, 5 with a hot tub and 14 that take dogs; from £80 a night1 |
| Glampingstays | 22 huts among 190 glamping stays2 |
| Unique Hideaways | 14 huts3 |
| Hipcamp | 13 listings with huts4 |
| Sykes Holiday Cottages | 52 glamping stays, with no hut-only filter5 |
| Campsites.co.uk | 10 sites with huts in West Cornwall6 |
As shown on each site on 23 October 2026. Counts change daily, and some sites count all glamping, not just huts.
Which part of Cornwall
Going by the towns in the listings, Cornish huts gather in a handful of areas, and each suits a different trip:126
- The north coast, around Bude, with a few near Boscastle: surf beaches, cliff walks and a short drive from Devon.
- Mid Cornwall, around Truro, St Austell and Newquay: central for both coasts.
- Bodmin Moor and the Looe and Liskeard edge: open moorland, quiet lanes and dark skies, within reach of the south coast.
- Helston, the Lizard and Falmouth: coves, creeks and the most southerly coast in Britain.
- The far west, around Hayle, St Ives and Penzance: the end of the line by train, and the best base for Land's End.
There are also huts around St Agnes and Porthtowan on the north coast, and near Padstow and Wadebridge.15
Hot tubs and prices
Pitchup's Cornish huts start at £80 a night.1 Huts with hot tubs cost more: examples we saw were £240 for two nights near Launceston and £387 for three nights near Liskeard (opening April 2027).1 Only 5 of Pitchup's 20 hut sites have a hot tub, so if you want one, book early or widen your search to Glampingstays and Sykes.
Dark skies
Cornwall has two official dark sky places: Bodmin Moor, an International Dark Sky Landscape since 2017, and West Penwith, an International Dark Sky Park since 2021. On Bodmin Moor, stargazing opportunities are "at their best in the darker spring, autumn and winter months."7 A hut with a wood burner on the moor makes a good out-of-season break.
Bringing a dog
Pitchup shows 14 of its 20 Cornish hut sites taking dogs.1 Cornwall Council bans dogs from many beaches from 1 July to 31 August, 10am to 6pm, and from some, such as Porthmeor in St Ives and Crooklets in Bude, from 15 May to 30 September at the same times. Dogs are banned all year from Hayle Estuary and the Carnsew and Copperhouse pools, and must be on a lead at Summerleaze in Bude from 21 May to 30 September. Privately owned beaches can have their own rules.8 Check the council's list for the beaches near your hut.
Getting there
The Night Riviera sleeper runs from London Paddington to Penzance every night except Saturday, stopping at stations including Liskeard, Bodmin Parkway, Par, St Austell, Truro, Redruth, Camborne, Hayle and St Erth. Up to two pets travel free, with a £30 cleaning fee per cabin.9
If you drive, Visit Cornwall warns that many places are "down narrow country lanes with high hedges and few reversing points", and that traffic is heavy in peak season, school holidays and at weekends.10 Ask your host for directions rather than relying on a sat nav for the last mile.
Before you book
The usual hut checks matter as much here as anywhere: is the toilet and shower inside the hut or a walk away, is the hot tub private and included, and is there a carbon monoxide alarm if there's a wood burner? Our checklist covers the rest.
