Shepherd's Hut Life Kits
Build your own shepherd's hut for under £8,000
A UK-made kit with everything cut, curved, glazed and numbered. You add the weekends.
Reserve a kitThe short answer: a finished shepherd's hut from a good maker costs from about £12,000 to £40,000 and up, and most of that is labour (see our costs guide). Our kit gives you the same curved frame, steel roof and double glazed doors and windows, delivered on pallets to your gate, from £6,250. Two people with a drill and a free month of weekends can have it weathertight.

Who it's for
Anyone who wants a shepherd's hut and would rather spend weekends than £15,000. Garden offices, guest rooms, teenagers' dens, holiday-let huts, farm diversification. If you can put up a shed and follow a video, you can build this.
You'll need a cordless drill, an impact driver, a circular saw for the cladding, a spirit level, clamps and a sealant gun. No specialist tools, and no woodworking joints to cut.
What you sort yourself
- The base: a level site, and either a chassis from us or sleepers and pads.
- Insulation: not in the standard kit. We give you the cut list so you can buy PIR board locally, or ask us to quote for it.
- Cladding: the outside boards are an extra or your own choice, so you can have featheredge, larch or painted tongue and groove.
- Electrics, plumbing and stove fitting: by a qualified electrician, plumber or HETAS installer.
- Planning: a hut on wheels in your garden for family use rarely needs permission in Great Britain, but it's your site and your council. Our planning guide explains the rules.

Questions people ask
Do I need planning permission for a kit hut?
Usually not for a hut on wheels in your own garden for family use in Great Britain, but it depends on your site and your council. See our planning guide.
Do I need a chassis?
Only if you want to move the hut or keep it a caravan in law. Many people set a hut on sleepers and pads. The rolling chassis is an extra.
How long does the build take?
Two people with the guide and videos usually have a weathertight shell in four to six weekends. Insulation, lining and fit-out take as long as you give them.
Is insulation included?
Not in the standard kit. We give you the cut list so you can buy PIR board locally, or we can quote for it.
Can I see a kit before I buy?
We're arranging viewing days and filming the first builds. Join the deals list and we'll tell you when they're on.
Do you deliver everywhere?
Mainland Great Britain by pallet to your kerbside, quoted by postcode. Islands and Northern Ireland on request.
