About this guide
Shepherd's Hut Life is an independent guide for people in the UK who want to stay in a shepherd's hut, own one, or let one out. It's the sister site of Garden Room Life.
How we write our guides
- Official sources first. Planning, licensing and safety rules come from legislation, government guidance and councils, and are linked on every page.
- Figures are sourced. Prices are makers' own list prices, labelled as such, with the date we checked them.
- Plain English. We explain the rules in terms of what they mean for you.
How the site is funded
The guides are free. Some booking sites and suppliers may pay us a commission if you book or buy through a link on this site. When a page has links like that, it says so. That never changes what we write.
The limits of this guide
We explain the national rules clearly, but your council decides planning and licensing, and local rules can differ. Check with them before you buy or let a hut.
